Get Brexit Ready

No matter how overwhelmed you may feel by Brexit, now is not the time to stick your head in the sand. Regardless of whether deals are struck, when the United Kingdom leaves the Customs Union and the Single Market on 31 December 2020, the nature of trade between Ireland and the UK will change significantly.

That means if your business sends or receives goods to/from the UK, you will have to provide and manage detailed customs clearance documentation else risk your goods getting stuck at the border. Not only will that result in increased costs and delays, it will impact your supply chains, affect your end customer, and increase the risk of compliance audits from Revenue.

A November 2020 poll conducted by Enterprise Ireland highlighted that 44% of businesses had not determined how to pay customs charges, while 30% had not decided who would manage their customs procedures. Only 42% of businesses felt they were ready for Brexit, leaving the vast majority of business surveyed with some way to go before they would deem themselves prepared for the changes on the way.
